OTA Throughput Measurement Methodology

2019/12/10

HL Global, Inc., a leading provider of embedded antennas for Customer Premises Equipment (CPE), is proud to use a trusted standard for repeatable and dependable Over-the-Air (OTA) throughput measurements of WiFi CPE using draft standard IEEE 802.11.2. The purpose of the OTA throughput measurement process is ensuring that HL Global provides design of antennas which maximizes OTA throughput performance of CPE.

The testing environment is selected based on a customer requirement and may include a real house or office space. The conditions are chosen to provide a “clean” measurement environment without any external interference and with the spectrum monitored continuously during all measurements.

Both a client and an access point locations are placed on a step-motion turntables rotating with a prescribed and a selectable step size. Turntables can be placed in different locations to support various scenarios including Line of Sight (LoS) and non-LoS and for specific distances and number of walls between an access point and a client. The configuration of the measurement involves turntable rotation per IEEE 802.11.2 draft standard, with selectable traffic type. The measurement duration per step, i.e. a single set of angles, can be chosen depending on the measurement needs but is never lower than 1min.

With this trusted OTA measurement standard, HL Global continues to lead the way in providing cutting-edge embedded antenna solutions for the telecommunications industry, helping customers to achieve their connectivity goals.
